Learning Outcome #5 & #6

Learning Outcome #5 & #6

MLA citations are my biggest struggle in English 110. This class helped me a lot on finally recognizing what I am doing wrong with my citations, and grammar in general. The hardest thing for me to learn is in text citations, but with my final essay, I believe I finally grasped the concept. Some of the quotes that I used were interesting because they were from a movie. This means that instead of a page number, I added a time from when the quote was said. Another thing that I learned for MLA citations was that if the author is introduced before the quote, their name does not have to be added into the in text citation. Here is the progression I have made from the first essay to the last:

1st Essay: Epstein states “This means that Ugandans are more likely to know their neighbors and to live near members of their extended families.” (Epstein, 116)

Last Essay: Kathleen Dean Moore makes a great statement about how humans work. She states “Our choices are all tangled up in nets of profit and entrenched patterns of environmental destruction. But if we understand exactly how skillfully we are manipulated, we’ll get angry, and that will motivate us to make a change” (7)

Another thing that I made a mistake with in the first draft was using double quotes inside a quote. I did not know that you use a single quote instead of a double quote. Luckily my peer reviewer noticed my mistake, and she commented on it so it would not be in my final draft.
