Learning Outcome #2

Learning Outcome #2

This learning outcome was very important in regards to my significant writing project, because we had to use the ideas of three different experts. I tried to use as many quality quotes as possible that would add to the ideas I was trying to make in the paper. This is because the ideas I was trying to make for the social change paper were heavily backed by the ideas of the professionals we read about.

As an English 110 student, I feel as though I really grew. As my papers progressed I was able to integrate the ideas of others more naturally into my paper, rather than throwing in a random quote just to add one. I believe that I have learned to only add quotes that will actually support my ideas. Here is an example of a quote that I believe I incorporated well:

Humans are fueled by their emotions, so the best way to get someone to do something is there. Kathleen Dean Moore makes a great statement about how humans work. She states “Our choices are all tangled up in nets of profit and entrenched patterns of environmental destruction. But if we understand exactly how skillfully we are manipulated, we’ll get angry, and that will motivate us to make a change” (7). This quote proves that humans need to be properly communicated and educated in order to really want to make a change and join the cause.

I thought that I incorporated this quote well because it added nicely to the point I was making, while not overshadowing what I was trying to say in my own words. I introduced the quote and the author, and after I included the quote, I explained it further tying it back into the idea I was trying to make.
